Agents for Leishmaniasis and Trypanosomiasis
Agents for leishmaniasis and trypanosomiasis are medications to prevent and treat infections such as pneumocystis carinii pneumonia (PCP), a lung infection usually developed in patients with weakened immune systems. They may also be used to treat Chagas disease and leishmaniasis, diseases often contracted from biting insects in tropical zones. Commonly prescribed agents for leishmaniasis and trypanosomiasis include anti-infective drug Nebupent (pentamidine) and Mepron (atovaquone), both of which are used to prevent and treat PCP.
