Angiotensin-II Receptor Blockers/ARBs and Other Combinations
Angiotensin-II receptor blockers (ARBs) and other combinations are medicines used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure), congestive heart failure, reduce stroke risk, and prevent diabetes. They work by blocking the action of angiotensin-II, which helps dilate blood vessels and reduce blood pressure. ARBs are often combined with other medications, such as calcium channel blockers, ACE inhibitors, beta-blockers, or thiazide diuretics, to increases their efficacy. Commonly prescribed angiotensin-II receptor blockers and other combinations include Atacand (candesartan, cilexetil), Exforge (amlodipine, valsartan), and Diovan HCT (valsartan, hydrochlorothiazide).
