Antacids are a class of drugs that are used to treat conditions caused by the excess of acid that is produced in the stomach. Magnesium based antacids are used to treat magnesium deficiencies from either diets or medications that cause magnesium depletion. Magnesium based antacids are available either over the counter or with a prescription, it is commonly known as Milk of Magnesia (magnesium hydroxide).
