Anti-anginal Agents, other

Anti-anginal agents are heart medicines used to treat angina caused by insufficient oxygen getting to the heart. Anti-anginals work by either improving blood flow to the heart, reducing the metabolic demand on the heart, or a combination of the two. Two vasodilator anti-anginal agents are organic nitrates and calcium agonists. Beta-adrenoreceptor antagonists may also be prescribed to slow heart rate in angina sufferers, thus reducing stress on the heart. One of the most common ant-anginal agents is Ranexa (ranolazine).
