Anti-arrhythmics, Class IV
Anti-arrhythmics, class IV are used to suppress abnormal health rhythms, such as atrial flutter, atrial fibrillation, ventricular tachycardia and ventricular fibrillation. They are used to treat high blood pressure and chest pain caused by angina. Class IV agents are slow calcium channel blockers affecting the amount of calcium found in the heart and muscle cells, which relaxes the blood vessels and reduces strain on the heart. Commonly prescribed anti-arrhythmics, class IV include Tiazac (diltiazem), Dilt-XR (diltiazem), Cardizem (diltiazem) and Verelan (verapamil).
