Antidotes, adsorbents are medicines used to absorb drugs or poisons following ingestion and to limit absorption of toxic substances into the body. They work by binding to the poisons and preventing their absorption by the gastrointestinal tract. A commonly used antidote, adsorbent is CharcoAid (activated charcoal), which is used to treat many types of oral poisonings, such as poisoning with phenobarbital and carbamazepine.
