Beta-Blocking Agent and Diuretic Combinations
Beta-blocking agent and diuretic combinations are used to reduce hypertension (high blood pressure) and lower the heart rate. Beta blockers are regularly used to treat hypertension and reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and stroke, while the diuretic agents decrease reabsorption of salt and decrease blood volume. Together they act as a more effective antihypertensive agent than either alone. Examples of beta-blocking agent and diuretic combinations include Ziac (bisoprolol, hydrochlorothiazide) and Corzide 80 (bendroflumethiazide, nadolol).
