Carbonic anhydrase inhibitors, ophthalmic are used to treat a range of conditions, such as edema, pressure in the eyes, glaucoma, altitude sickness, epilepsy, and seizure prevention. They work by reducing the activity of the enzyme carbonic anhydrase and decreasing the secretion of aqueous humor (the clear fluid filling the space between the lens and cornea in the eye), which reduces eye pressure.
