Chelating Agents

Chelating agents are also known as sequestering agents, they are chemical compounds that react with metal ions to form a stable, water soluble complex. Chelating agents are usually organic compounds that contain carbon. Chelating agents bind themselves to either iron, lead or copper in the blood and can be used to treat high levels of these metals or in the treatment of heavy metal poisoning. The most common chelating agent is Exjade (deferasirox).
