Direct Thrombin Inhibitors
Direct thrombin inhibitors are blood thinners used to lower the chance of stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation or to treat or prevent blood clots in the lungs or veins. They may also be used to prevent arterial or venous thrombosis or to prevent deep vein thrombosis. Commonly prescribed direct thrombin inhibitors include Pradaxa (dabigatran etexilate) and Angiomax (bivalirudin).
Drugs classified as Direct Thrombin Inhibitors are frequently used to treat the following conditions:

- Stroke
- Deep Vein Thrombosis
- Pulmonary Embolism
- deep venous thrombosis (DVT)
- deep venous thrombosis (DVT) prophylaxis
