Fibric Acid Derivatives/Fibrates
Fibric acid derivatives/fibrates are used to lower cholesterol, treat hyperlipoproteinemia, coronary artery disease, high glyceride levels and to unblock arteries. Fibrates work by activating the lipoprotein enzyme, which results in decreased formation of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood. Commonly prescribed fibric acid derivatives/fibrates include Lipofen (fenofibrate), TriCor (fenofibrate), Lopid (gemfibrozil) and Trilipix (fenofibric acid).
Drugs classified as Fibric Acid Derivatives/Fibrates are frequently used to treat the following conditions:
- High Triglycerides
- hypercholesterolemia
- Coronary Artery Disease
