Humectants
Humectants are agents that promote the retention of moisture. Humectants can be used as topical forms and increase ability of the active ingredients in topical medications to penetrate the skin or prevent the skin from drying out. The most common humectants are Aloe Vera gel, which is widely available, and Alpha hydroxy acid, which is found in many cosmetics.
