Inhibitors of the Kallikrein-kinin-system are used during cardiopulmonary bypass surgery to reduce blood loss. The Kallikrein-kinin-system is a hormonal system consisting of blood proteins affecting blood pressure control, inflammation, pain, and coagulation. A commonly used inhibitor of the Kallikrein-kinin-system is Trasylol (aprotinin).
