Iodine Therapy
Iodine therapy is a type of radiotherapy used to destroy cells in the thyroid gland, reducing the number of hormones produced. It is a highly effective treatment for hyperthyroidism, an overactive thyroid. The patient is given a drink or capsule that contains iodine and a low dose of radiation, which is absorbed into the thyroid. Most people only need one dose. It can take a few weeks or even months to feel the full benefits, so you may need to continue taking previously prescribed medications. Radioactive iodine therapy is not suitable for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
