They contain a non-opioid antitussive as a cough suppressant, a decongestant to help clear airways and nasal passages, and an expectorant agent to break up mucus and remove it from the lungs. Commonly prescribed non-opioid antitussive, decongestant, and expectorant combinations include Robitussin Cough & Cold Cf (dextromethorphan, guaifenesin, phenylephrine).
