PCSK9 Inhibitors
Proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9) inhibitors are used to treat high cholesterol and reduce the risk of a cardiac event. They work by blocking the PCSK9 enzyme, decreasing the levels of low-density lipoproteins in the blood. They are used in patients whose cholesterol level is not controlled by diet or with statin therapy. Commonly prescribed PCSK9 inhibitors include the Praluent Pen (alirocumab) and Repatha Syringe (evolocumab).
