Plain Cardiac Glycosides
Cardiac glycosides is the generic term for a number of different drugs with the ability to increase the force with which the heart contracts. They are used to treat patients with heart failure and atrial fibrillation (a form of arrhythmia in which the heart beats fast and out of rhythm) by regulating heart rate and strengthening the heart. One of the most commonly prescribed plain cardiac glycosides is Lanoxin (digoxin).
Drugs classified as Plain Cardiac Glycosides are frequently used to treat the following conditions:
- atrial flutter
- Atrial Fibrillation
- Heart Failure
- PSVT
- cardiac glycoside-induced arrhythmias
- digoxin toxicity
