Polymyxin Antibiotics

Polymyxin antibiotics are used to treat gram-negative bacterial infections, particularly in cases where other antibiotics have either proved ineffective or are contraindicated. They may also be used topically to prevent skin infections. They work by breaking up the cell membrane of the bacteria. A commonly prescribed polymyxin antibiotic is Coly-mycin M Parenteral (colistimethate sodium).
