Rapid-acting Human Insulins and Analogs
Insulins are used to counter low blood sugar levels in patients suffering from type 1 or type 2 diabetes. They function by stopping the liver's production of more sugar to release into the body. Rapid-acting human insulins and analogs take effect quickly. Insulin analogs are altered forms of insulin, different to those that occur naturally, but which have the same effect on the human body when it comes to glycemic control. Commonly prescribed human insulins and analogs include the Humalog Kwikpen U-100 (insulin Lispro), the Novolog Flexpen (insulin Aspart) and Apidra Sologstar (insulin glulisine).
