Thiazolidinedione/Glitazone Antidiabetics
Thiazolidinedione, otherwise known as glitazones, are oral hypoglycemics prescribed to treat diabetes type 2 and occasionally with patients who have polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). These insulin sensitizers are used to lower blood sugar levels. Glitazones may be used as a standalone therapy or in conjunction with metformin. Commonly prescribed glitazones include Actos (pioglitazone) and Avandia (rosiglitazone).
