Topical Antihistamines

Topical antihistamines are a class of drug that are for use on the skin, eyes, or inside the nose. They are used to treat the symptoms of allergic reactions caused by the release of histamine from our histamine-1 receptors. Nasal topical antihistamines come in the form of nasal sprays, ocular topical antihistamines as eye drops, and topical antihistamines as a cream. They are used to relieve pain and itching from insect bites, minor cuts and burns and rashes from allergic reactions. Most common contain either diphenhydramine or doxepin. Some forms of topical antihistamines are available without prescription.
