Acromegaly
Acromegaly is a condition in which the body produces too much growth hormone, resulting in excessive growth of certain parts of the body, such as the face, feet, hands, heart, and bones. It is a condition affecting middle-aged adults.
Symptoms of acromegaly include swelling of the hands, feet and other parts of the body, aching joints, stiff and rough body hairs, high blood pressure, heart disease, a deeper or hoarse voice, headaches, tingling or pain in the fingers, reduced libido, vision problems, erectile dysfunction, changes in the menstrual cycle, and fatigue.
The most common cause of acromegaly is a benign tumors of the pituitary gland, but tumors in other areas, such as the pancreas, liver or brain may also result in high levels of the growth hormone.
