Aldosteronism

Aldosteronism

Aldosteronism, also known as hyperaldosteronism, is a hormonal condition in which excessive quantities of the hormone aldosterone are produced by the adrenal glands.

While it is often asymptomatic, common signs of aldosteronism include fatigue, headaches, high blood pressure, muscle spasms, muscle weakness, numbness, and low potassium levels. Treatment may involve removal of the adrenal gland and prescription medication.

Aldosterone antagonists such as Aldactone (spironolactone) are commonly prescribed to lower aldosterone levels in patients with aldosteronism.
