Benign prostatic hypertrophy (BHP) is a non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate, which can cause a variety of lower urinary tract symptoms. The enlarged prostate puts pressure on the urethra causing bladder and urination difficulties. The condition arises because of changes in the balance of hormones and cell growth.
BHP products, such as Cialis (tadalafil) are available, and in some cases surgery may be recommended. Drug classes often used to treat the condition include alpha blockers such as Flomax (tamsulosin) and 5 Alpha reductase inhibitors such as Proscar (finasteride).
