Cervical Dystonia
Cervical dystonia, also known as spasmodic torticollis, is a rare but painful disorder in which muscles of the neck contract involuntarily. This may result in involuntary movement of the head, such as twisting to one side or tipping forward or back.
It can occur at any age, but which is more common in middle-aged people, particularly women. The condition is incurable, but symptoms usually reach a point where they do not get significantly worse.
Treatment usually focuses on alleviating pain and the symptoms but may include physical therapy, medication, and in some cases surgery. Commonly used drug classes prescribed to treat cervical dystonia include muscle relaxants, other neuromuscular blockers, and botox injected into the affected muscles.
