Dyskinesia
Dyskinesia is a symptom of a number of movement disorders and is characterized by involuntary muscle movements. These may include tics, chorea, tremors, and uncontrollable movements of the upper body or extremities.
It may be the result of another medical condition, such as Parkinson's disease, lupus or Huntington's disease, or as a side effect of prolonged use of certain medication, particularly antipsychotics and amphetamines.
Treatment of dyskinesia may involve changing existing medication. Vesicular monoamine transporter (VMAT) inhibitors such as Ingrezza (valbenazine) may also be prescribed to treat dyskinesia.
