Hand, Foot, And Mouth Disease

Hand, Foot, And Mouth Disease

Hand, foot, and mouth disease can cause fever, cold symptoms, and a rash around the hands, feet, face, and butt. The condition comes from a family of viruses that spread easily between people. The symptoms are generally mild but in rare cases it can cause more serious problems such as neurological issues.

Hand, foot, and mouth affects people of all ages, not just children, though it is most common in children under 3.

Symptoms can include:

  • Mouth sores, including in the back of the mouth and throat

  • A pink bumpy rash on the hands, butt/upper thighs, feet, mouth, and chin

  • Fever

  • Runny nose

  • Drooling

  • Not wanting to eat or drink (make sure to keep children hydrated)

  • Fussiness, irritability (especially in babies and children)
