Rosacea is a chronic skin disorder in which the skin becomes red and inflamed. It usually affects the face and symptoms include redness, pimples, a bulbous nose. Rosacea may also cause eye problems, such as swollen eyelids and rosacea keratitis.
People with rosacea often experience flare-ups, which may be brought on by a number of triggers, such as alcohol, hot and spicy food or stress. It is easily controlled with medication, but left untreated it may worsen over time.
Topical rosacea agents are often prescribed to treat the condition. Tetracycline antibiotics such as Taragdox (doxycycline hyalite) may also be prescribed to treat blemishes, bumps and acne-like lesions caused by rosacea.
