Amide Local Anesthetics
Amide local anesthetics are numbing agents used to treat or prevent localized pain by causing a loss of feeling in the skin and surrounding tissues. They are used for a range of conditions, including ear infections and following surgery. They function by blocking pain signals in the nerves. Commonly prescribed amide local anaesthetics include Lidoderm (lidocaine), Emla (lidocaine), and Altacaine (proparacaine).
