Colony-stimulating Factors

Colony-stimulation factors are man-made proteins that promote the production of white blood cells in response to an infection. Colony-stimulating factors are often used in patients with a low white blood cell count, called neutropenia. Neutropenia is often common in patients undergoing cancer treatment or bone marrow transplants. Colony-stimulating factors are usually administered by a doctor or healthcare professional, often intravenously. The most common types are filgrastim, pegfilgrastim and tbo-filgrastim.
