Combination HIV Antivirals
Combination HIV antivirals are drugs used to treat HIV and prevent HIV in patients at high risk of contracting the disease. They combine two or more retroviral medicines in one formulation and work by preventing the synthesis of DNA in viral cells, preventing further multiplication of HIV cells. These medications are not a cure for HIV. Commonly prescribed combination HIV antivirals include Truvada (emtrimitabbine, tenofovir), Genvoya (elvitegravir, cobicistat, emtricitabine, tenofovir alafenamide), and Atripla (efavirenz, emtricitabine, tenofovir).
