Contact/Stimulant Laxatives

Contact/stimulant laxatives are used to provide fast relief from constipation. They work by stimulating the lining of the intestine, accelerating the passage of stools. Drugs in this class also increase the hydration of stools to encourage easier passage. Commonly prescribed contact/stimulant laxatives include Correctol (bisacodyl), Ex-Lax and Dulcolax (bisacodyl).
