Progestogens
Progestogens are used to treat endometriosis, secondary amenorrhea (cessation of menstruation due to low levels of certain hormones) and uterine bleeding. They work by acting in a biologically similar way to the female hormone progesterone, which regulates and stimulates various functions, including the menstrual cycle and pregnancy. An example of a commonly prescribed progestogen is Aygestin (norethindrone acetate).
Drugs classified as Progestogens are frequently used to treat the following conditions:
- Endometriosis
- Irregular Menstruation
- dysfunctional uterine bleeding
- estrogen replacement therapy
- Preterm Labor
