Proton Pump Inhibitors/PPIs
Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) are used to treat gastric ulcers, heartburn, GERD and duodenal ulcers. They work by reducing the stomach's production of acid by blocking the actions of the enzyme responsible for acid production, enabling ulcers to heal. Commonly prescribed proton pump inhibitors include Prilosec (omeprazole), Protonix (pantoprazole sodium) and Nexium (esomeprazole).
