Vasopressin (ADH) and Analogs
Vasopressin (ADH) and analogs are used to treat central diabetes insipidus caused by a lack of a naturally occurring pituitary hormone in the body. Vasopressin (ADH) and analogs are man-made forms of an anti-diuretic hormone normally secreted by the pituitary gland. It acts on the kidneys and blood vessels to prevent loss of water from the body by reducing the output of urine and promoting reabsorption of water into the body. Vasopressin (ADH) and analogs may also be used treat some stomach conditions following surgery or during x-rays of the abdomen. Commonly prescribed Vasopressin (ADH) and analogs include Pitressin Synthetic (vasopressin) and Vasostrict (vasopressin).
Drugs classified as Vasopressin (ADH) and Analogs are frequently used to treat the following conditions:
- Diabetes Insipidus
- Hemophilia
- Hemorrhage
- hemarthrosis
- bleeding prophylaxis
- enuresis
- hemophilia A
- von Willebrand's disease
