Hemorrhage is another word for bleeding. It may refer to external bleeding, for example, an injury to the skin, or it may refer to internal organ injury caused by blood leaking from blood vessels. 

The cause of hemorrhages varies but may include trauma and injury to the body, or an underlying medical condition. Certain medical conditions, such as hemophilia, make hemorrhaging more likely to occur. 

Treatment of hemorrhage depends on the location and cause of the bleeding. The stopping or controlling of bleeding, known as hemostasis, may be achieved with surgery, first-aid, or medication. Drug classes commonly prescribed to treat hemorrhaging include synthetic antifibrinolytics, calcium antagonists with cerebral activity, and certain labor inducers.
