Brain Tumor
A brain tumor is a growth of abnormal cells in the brain. There are many different varieties of brain tumor, including benign and malignant (cancerous) growths. Primary brain tumors begin in the brain, whereas secondary or metastatic brain tumors occur when cancer spreads to the brain from other parts of the body.
Signs and symptoms of brain tumors include a new onset of headaches, increasingly severe headaches, unexplained nausea or vomiting, vision issues, loss of movement or sensation in a limb, balance problems, speech difficulties, growing confusion, a personality change, seizures, and hearing problems.
Surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy are commonly used to treat brain tumors. Certain medication may also be used to shrink the tumor. Drug classes commonly utilized in the treatment of brain tumors include nitrosoureas and antineoplastic monoclonal antibodies.
