Candidiasis
Candidiasis is a yeast infection caused by a variety of Candida fungus. It commonly affects the mucous membranes in the mouth, intestinal tract or vagina, although in rare cases it may spread to other parts of the body, particularly if the patient's immune system does not function properly. Candidiasis most commonly manifests as oral thrush or diaper rash, but it may affect the nails or skin.
Candidiasis is usually treated with medication. Commonly prescribed drug classes used to treat the condition include polyene antifungals, topical scalp antifungals, topical dermatological antifungals, and other systemic antifungals.
