Progestogen only contraceptives are a form of hormonal birth control and emergency contraception. They may also be used to treat irregular menstruation, endometriosis, uterine cancer, and breast cancer. Progestogen only contraceptives prevent ovulation and cause changes in the cervical mucus and uterine lining, which makes it harder for sperm to reach the uterus and fertilized egg. Commonly used progestogen only contraception include Depo-Provera (medroxyprogesterone), Ortho Micronor (norethindrone), Camila (norethindrone), and Nora-be (norethindrone).
