Fatigue

Fatigue

Fatigue is a symptom of a number of other conditions and is characterized by a feeling of extreme tiredness, low energy levels, and physical weakness. It may be caused by depression or other mental health conditions; not getting enough exercise or excessive exercise; or by disease, for example, heart disease, COPD, diabetes, or multiple sclerosis.

Fatigue may be diagnosed as chronic fatigue syndrome when the symptoms cannot be explained by an underlying medical condition and do not improve with rest. It may be triggered by viral infections, immune system problems, or a hormone imbalance. Symptoms include fatigue, memory loss or difficulty concentrating, sore throat, headaches, sleep that does not alleviate tiredness, and extreme exhaustion following physical or mental strain.

Rest and relaxation are among the most important treatments for fatigue. A healthy diet, exercise, and therapy may also help. Drug classes commonly used to treat fatigue include narcolepsy agents and ADHD agents, stimulant, and other psychostimulants.
