1st Generation Cephalosporin Antibiotics
First generation cephalosporin antibiotics are used to treat a range of bacterial infections, particularly skin and soft-tissue infections, and streptococcal pharyngitis. They are particularly effective against gram-positive cocci and work by killing the bacteria causing the infection. Commonly prescribed first generation cephalosporin antibiotics include Duricef (cefadroxil), Ancef (cefazolin) and Keflex (cephalexin).
