Topical Local Anesthetics
Topical local anesthetics are medicines used to alleviate pain, including nerve pain and pain experienced following surgery. They are applied locally to an area of skin and the surrounding area to cause a loss of feeling and numbness. Commonly prescribed topical local anesthetics include Topicaine 5 (lidocaine), Emla (lidocaine, prilocaine) and Xylocaine (lidocaine).
