2nd Generation Cephalosporin and Cephamycin Antibiotics
Second generation cephalosporin and cephamycin antibiotics are used to treat and prevent certain kinds of bacterial infections, such as urinary tract infections, gonococcal infection, meningitis, and strep throat. They work by killing or preventing further growth of the bacteria. Commonly prescribed second generation cephalosporin and cephamycin antibiotics include Cefotan (cefotetan), Zinacef (cefuroxime) and Ceftin (cefuroxime).
