Special Enrollment Period (SEP)
The Special Enrollment Period (SEP) is a time outside of the official Open Enrollment period in which individuals can enroll in a health insurance plan. Only certain people will qualify for the SEP, notably those who have undergone a significant life event, for instance; marriage, the birth or adoption of a child, divorce, a death, moving home, or loss of health coverage.
Generally, you are only eligible for the SEP for 60 days after one of these life events. To find out if you qualify for a SEP, check the HealthCare.gov website for more details.
